Attitude of Gratitude

Finding Gratitude in Unlikely Places

On April 3, 2020, I sat in my backyard for the first time since moving into my home.
Not a big deal, right?
Except I had lived here for two years.

The truth is—I’ve never been too fond of the neighborhood. Most days, the only time I step outside is to walk to and from my car. But with the world on lockdown thanks to COVID-19, I was finally forced to pause… and take advantage of the space I’d been avoiding.

As I sat outside, something unexpected happened. I began to reflect—deeply—on everything this house, this space, has provided me and my family. Despite my feelings about the neighborhood, this home has been a blessing in more ways than one:

  1. It’s given us comfort and enough space to actively save for our dream home.

  2. It allowed me to invest in one of the most life-changing coach training programs—Inner Glow Circle.

  3. It gave my partner room to keep growing his clothing business, H2E.

  4. It became the foundation for my next level of personal development.

  5. It gave us the ability to pay off debt (grad school loans are no joke).

  6. And most importantly, it allowed us to give my son the stability I didn’t always have growing up.

As I walked back inside that day, I felt something I hadn’t felt in a while—deep gratitude.
If we didn’t live in this fully owned home, I wouldn’t have had the same freedom to invest in my growth, my dreams, or my family’s future.
This home—flawed location and all—has been the foundation for building the life I envision.

That moment reminded me:
It’s okay to be grateful for where you are and still desire more.
We can hold both things—gratitude and ambition—at the same time.

Sometimes we become so focused on what we don’t like or where we wish we were, that we overlook the very blessings that are helping us get there.

Making peace with your current season doesn’t mean you’re settling.
It means you’re choosing to see beauty in imperfection.
It means you’re shifting your perspective and allowing yourself to grow through what you’re going through.

Questions for the Collective:

  1. Where in your life could a shift in perspective unlock a deeper sense of gratitude?

  2. What gifts are hidden in the space you currently call “not enough”?
